March 22: Preparation for Worship

The following will be used in worship this coming Lord's day. Meditate on this throughout the remainder of the week as you prepare to come before the Lord in worship.

Confession of Faith
  • We confess and acknowledge one God alone,to Whom alone we must cleave, Whom alone we must serve, Whom only we must worship, and in Whom alone we put our trust. Who is eternal, infinite, immeasurable, incomprehensible, omnipotent, invisible; One in substance and yet distinct in three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. By Whom we confess and believe all things in heaven and earth, visible and invisible to have been created, to be retained in their being, and to be ruled and guided by His inscrutable providence for such end as His eternal wisdom, goodness, and justice have appointed, and to the manifestation of His own glory. Amen.

Chapter 1, The Scots Confession of 1560

God's Word

  • Old Testament: Nehemiah 3:1-5 (Sermon: "Evaluating the Life I am Building")
  • New Testament: James 3:13-18

Hymns

In your times of meditation and preparation this week, consider the following prayer from the Valley of Vision.

Holy Lord, I have sinned times without number, and been guilty of pride and unbelief, of failure to find Your mind in Your Word, of neglect to seek You in my daily life. My transgressions and short-comings present me with a list of accusations, but I bless You that they will not stand against me, for all have been laid on Christ. Go on to subdue my corruptions, and grant me grace to live above them. Let not the passions of the flesh nor lustings of the mind bring my spirit into subjection, but do Thou rule over me in liberty and power.
