In the seventh chapter of Nehemiah the wall has been completed and the gates have been hung. Leaders have been appointed and the city of Jerusalem, along with the Temple, is finally secure. What a relief for the people of Jerusalem! Do you have a sense of security in your relationship with Christ? For the one who has Jesus Christ as Savior, our eternal security is provided by God. We find this promise in Hebrews 10:11-14 and in 10:19-25.
In Hebrews 10:11 we are told the priests had to offer daily sacrifices for the sin of the people. In verse 12 we are told that Christ offered Himself for sin once and then, "He sat down at the right hand of God." Being seated indicates His work as Savior was completed. Now we have the privilege of approaching our Savior without hesitation.
In Hebrews 10:19-25 we are instructed as to what this means for those who have faith in Jesus Christ as their Savior.
In verses 19-20 we are told "we have confidence to enter the holy places by the
blood of Jesus." Before Christ only the High Priest was allowed into the
holy place once a year to atone for the sins of the people. We may
enter the presence of our heavenly Father anytime with confidence that
He will hear our prayers! This strengthens our relationship with our
heavenly Father and gives us security in our relationship with Him.
In verses 21-22 we are given instructions concerning the manner
in which we are to enter His presence. In verse 20 we are told it
is through Christ since He is our great High Priest.
In verse 22 we are encouraged to draw near with a true heart. That
is to acknowledge who Jesus is and the true condition of our sinful
heart. Then we should have "full assurance of faith." That is to come
without doubting of who Jesus is and what He accomplished on our behalf.
Finally, we come "with our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience
bodies washed with pure water." The removal of sin provides us with a
close relationship with our heavenly Father.
The exhortation in verse 23 is to "hold fast the confession our our
hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful." God is loyal
and dependable and whatever He has promised us He will fulfill. As a
result of following these instructions we have a strong sense of
eternal security in our relationship with the Lord.
Realizing that our heavenly Father loved us so much that He not only saved us from our sin but also desires that we enter His presence and fellowship with Him on a regular basis reassures us of the secure relationship we have with our heavenly Father. If you feel insecure in your relationship maybe you are not talking to Him on a regular basis like you should. Every believer should have the "confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus."
