Finding Relief For A Troubled Mind

There are many things that cause Believers to have a troubled mind. One would be worrying about something and the other un-confessed sin. Both of which are sins. Psalm 32 reminds us that God forgives us and blesses us when we confess our sins.

Verses 1-2 is a benediction for the sinner who has confessed their sin. There are spiritual blessings of joy and peace when the believer confesses sin. The transgression is lifted off and the sin is covered. The sin is removed and God never sees the sin again. The Lord does not hold that sin against the believer and the believer is always honest with God. The result is a mind that is not troubled.

Verses 3-5 instructs believers in the process one must follow in order to have that benediction upon them. In verse 3 David speaks of his spiritual, mental, emotional and physical condition due to his sin. In verse 4 he speaks of experiencing the hand of God against him and how this drained him of spiritual and physical strength. Finally, in verse 5 he was led to confess his sin and ask God to forgive him. This confession is thorough as we see David confessing sin, iniquity and transgression. After this confession David states, "You forgave the iniquity of my sin." This means the sin and the guilt was forgiven.

In verses 6-7 we see that the hand of God is no longer against David but now the Lord is the one who delivers, protects and becomes his refuge. What a change in the relationship from verse 3-5 to verses 6-7.

In verses 8-9 The Lord speaks to David promising to instruct him and to counsel him with His eye. In order for David to receive this instruction from God he must give the Lord his undivided attention. We must also be like David and confess our sin and give the Lord our undivided attention lest we fall into sin again.

The Psalm concludes with two classes of people, the wicked and the one who trusts in the Lord. The believers are to be glad in the Lord and shout for joy. This is the experience of one who confesses their sin and knows beyond a shadow of a doubt they are forgiven.

Let us turn our troubled mind into a mind that is at peace with the Lord for we are indeed a forgiven people.
