Have you ever thought about your personal role in the church? Sometimes it appears that the work of the Lord is carried out by the same few people and the rest of the members come to worship and observe what is going on. We need to look at the Scriptures to understand the role the Lord has for me in the work of His Church.
In Titus 1:1 we read, "Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, for the sake of the faith of God's elect and their knowledge of the truth, which accords with godliness." In this verse Paul acknowledges that he is a slave to God. Being a slave to anyone is foreign to our thinking, yet. as a Believer that is exactly what I am. In 1 Corinthians 12:7 we read, "To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. Since I am God's slave then I should be using my gifts and abilities for the good of everyone in the church. He then states that it is "for the sake of the faith of God's elect." My role in the church is to be concerned about the faith of my brothers and sisters in Christ. What am I doing in the church to encourage and to build up my brothers and sisters? Another interesting fact is to be concerned for "their knowledge of the truth." When someone comes to me for advice or counsel it is my responsibility to make sure whatever I might say to them will be biblically sound and true. Finally, my words and deeds should "accord with godliness." This means that my life would encourage my brothers and sisters to have a reverent and respectful attitude toward God. Not to take His Word lightly or to think that my relationship with Him is not very important.
Each Believers' role in the church is very important and should not be taken lightly. If you ever think that your role in the church is not important or significant, meditate on Titus 1:1

Daddy, this is so true! Yet it is something that even today I have been wrestling with. Where is the balance of life? I try to remember that I cannot give to others what I am not recieving myself but does this mean that I pull back from the church or should I step back from other things? Ouch! A question that most of us don't realy want to answer...I don't at times.
