Beginning A New Year

In beginning a New Year I always reflect on the old and think about what the Lord might bring my way in the coming year. In doing this I was reflecting on Psalm 91:1-2. It is believed that Moses is the author of this prayer as he was in the wilderness with the Children of Israel.

In verse 1 God reveals Himself as "The Most High" which means He is holy, holy, holy and inaccessible to the common individual. He then reveals Himself as "the Almighty" meaning He has all the power in heaven and earth and is our only source of blessing and comfort.

In verse 2 Moses says to "the LORD" thereby reminding us of the Covenant God of grace which allows His children to come into His presence at any time for any reason. Moses then says that the LORD is "my refuge and my fortress, my God". This tells us that whatever might cause fear and anxiety in our hearts or whatever need we might have our LORD will be there to provide and protect us. This verse closes with the phrase, "in whom I trust". The verb "trust" means to have total confidence in someone, in this context the LORD, and to trust Him all the time for everything.

As I meditate on these truths about the LORD I will be able to enter into 2009 looking with positive anticipation as to what the LORD is going to do in and through me and how He is going to provide and protect my family and me.

It is my prayer that as you read and meditate on these truths from the LORD that you also will begin the year 2009 with complete confidence in the LORD and what He is going to do in and through you as well.

I pray that each of us will have a blessed and joyful New Year.

Daddy, you really are a great blogger! I enjoy reading the TRUTHs from God's Word that you post. Ps 91: 1,2 is a great psalm to meditate on for a new year with new beginnings. However, I love that as believers each day is a new beginning for us. I am thankful that HIS mercies are new every morning.
